Treating the skin - eczema

When do I apply a compress and when a cream?  The general rule of treating the type and stage of eczema is wet on wet.  Wet dressings are bathed in solutions containing essential oils are applied for 30 minutes 4 times a day to acute weeping eczema.  Dry lesions are best treated with creams.
