12. War vs Peace

Human values

Contention is of course the stuff of politics.   http://www.totalpolitics.com/
Jaw Jaw as Churchill said is better than War, War
Our gut brain will always take us to one side of the debate or another but how we conduct ourselves in that debate is upto us.  Presenting our case, remaining reasonable and getting to an agreement takes considerable maturity.

"In the midst of international financial turmoil, China was still able to solve the problem of feeding its 1.3 billion people, and that was already our greatest contribution to humankind," he said in comments that soon drew applause from Chinese Internet users. "Some foreigners with full bellies and nothing better to do engage in finger-pointing at us," "First, China does not export revolution; second, it does not export famine and poverty; and third, it does not mess around with you. So what else is there to say?"Xi Jinping

8,9,10, gluttony, bitterness and wickedness on the one hand and abstinence, generosity and devotion on the other, belong together.

11,12,13too belong together.  It is tempting to go quickly through these but well worth reflecting on each one in turn.  Lying, contention/war, unhappiness on the one hand, truth, peace and blessedness on the other.

War
Strain, stress, tension, conflict, combat

Peace

Blessedness, tranquility harmony, agreement, reconciliation

"Peacemakers" writes Dr Strehlow "are a remedy for our sick world.  They live in inner peace in an atmosphere of incense and myrhh trying to live their lives without daily stress and struggle."  By contrast Hildegards vision of war was an axe bearing man with wounded handed and blood splattered garments.  Peace is the remedy for those friendly and amiable people damaged by the anger of war and attracts to it good.

In a time of war a grim struggle for survival over an issue it is waged with our gut brains not our higher selves.
