British Pharmacopoeia 2007

The British Pharmacopoeia makes an authoritive statement of the quality that a product is expected to meet at any time during its period of use.

Additions in 2007 were Caraway Oil, Pine Silvestris Oil

Caraway Oil, ACTIONS AND USE Carminative and flavour DEFINITION Oil derived by steam distillation of the fruits of Carum Carvi L.  APPEARANCE Clear, colourless or yellow liquid CONTENTS carvone 50-65%,  limonene  30-45% STORAGE in a well filled, airtight container, protected from light, at a temperature not exceeding 25C. Ph Eur monograph 1817

Pine Silvestris Oil DEFINITION Oil derived by steam distillation of the fresh leaves and branches of Pinus silvestris L.  APPEARANCE Clear, colourless or pale yellow liquid. Characteristic aroma. CONTENTS a-pinene 32-60%, b-pinene 5-22%, car-3-ene 6-18% b-myrcene 1.5-10%, limonene 7-12% STORAGE in a well filled, airtight container, protected from light, at a temperature not exceeding 25C. LABELLING states the name and any concentration of antioxidant added.  Ph Eur monograph 1842
