Professional aromatherapy?


What is Professional Aromatherapy?
Professional Aromatherapy is the systematic use of essential oils in natural holistic treatments that seek to improve physical and emotional well-being. Fundamental principles of such treatments are non-violence, therapeutic touch, listening, the use of organic natural plant materials, the importance of self care.  While evidence based aromatherapy treatments do have regard to the fact that what is visible and measurable is only a part of what we can perceive.  Chief among the materials of aromatherapy are essential oils extracted from plants.  Essential oils are scientifically proven to possess important therapeutic properties, which may be utilised to improve health and prevent disease. Indeed the clue is in the name:

For nurses and midwives interested  in the clinical uses of essential oils for their patients needs Shirley Price’s Aromatherapy for Health Professionals is available in a new 2011 edition.  If you are ill you should see your doctor.  Aromatherapy treatments rarely are a cure by themselves though they can be effective in the treatment of common ailments and in particular of the anxiety, stress and depression which often accompany undiagnosed symptoms.
